Cast off since last week. But pain in left hand today, including finger(s).
Watching L&O: Original Flavor, and the episode about Iraq and the press....
Training today, and then training tomorrow. Wahoo! The location is a state owned-conference center in a historic house once owned by a DuPont (as are half the historic buildings in NCCo it seems). Really cool Steinway Pianola in the room. And they're feeding us! Good cookies, in addition to good lunch and coffee and hard candy all day.

[music |Towlee episode of south park...the first one, I think]

Cast comes off tomorrow....I think the doc said he'd do an ex-rae to see what the deal is now. I wonder if I could get a copy of my first ex-rae as a picture/jpeg so I can stop having to explain to everyone what exactly is broken. Then I am thinking PT....maybe the Miller Institute in NYC (where the Julliard kids go).
Some mild hand pain today, but that could be from playing on a dysfunctional piano....hoping that's the moisture from the flooding yeserday and not sonmething permenant...anyway some of the keys weren't playing right-semi sticking but not exactly.

Got a cool new pair of pants today....chef pants. Was looking around the scrubs shop, and saw the chef section....and the pants are not as casual or nurse-looking as scrubs, but comfortable and very washable. I just have to remove the patch that says 'chefwear', and I'll be good to go. Wearing them tomorrow.

Hmm...this MTV new channel commercial is playing a song with the melody from a song on Bueno Vista Social Club, but different words and a slight different rhytthm to accomidate those words.

well, back to soused park....

no glass slippers [Sep. 5th, 2006|06:28 pm]
Apparently I'm too old to be Cinderella. If only some nice guys old enough to vote (but not old enough to join the AARP) would audition sometimes so I would have someone my age to play opposite to.
Flooding at work...I had to hold my groups in a different room. This involved moving a pingpong table with the cast still on my wrist. Actually it didn't interfere too much. Can't waittill this thing is off my arm.

I am debating whether or not to be in Cinderella as another part or usethe free time to do something else. There's a harp competition in Atlanta, GA in October that I've beentempted to try. But I need to decide and let the director know ASAP/in a few days. My mother would be best person to discuss all this with but she is at class. Silly woman, she's got a new job and she's starting her master's in special ed. If only I could get around to getting a masters.

Actually, I have taken more action on that issue, contacting more schools for information. And trying to find out the minimal education requirements for licensure and how they relate to me. The rules say min. 48 credits, which is none of the programs I'm looking at, so I need to figure out if I can take additional needed credits at another (i.e. local) school to get to that magic number. The only schools with pre-approved programs are in NY, and of those I've already ruled out NYU due to cost and I didn't quite feel it was what I was looking for. I guess I could research scholarships. I don't want major loans, no sense being $50thou in debt to work ina field that pays the bare minimum.

I also need to decide what non-MT programs I'm applying to (besides Princeton) and get working on applications. For Princeton I need to decide whether I want to go with musicology or composition.

eeek...time for food~

blah [Sep. 4th, 2006|03:45 pm]
Sleeping until 3pm was not planned, although I admit it wasnt constant sleep.
However I wasted a day off from work, and missed any opportunities to find something cool todo since I doubt anyone is around anymore. I can't wait until I can drive again.
This week will be....hard to tell. I get the cast off Thursday. Rehearsals for the GW show begin Saturday. I may or may n ot have callbacks tomorrow nite. Then the assortment of other appointments and meetings this week. And good ole' work. And get dog from kennel tomorrow.
Today is a day for food and back to school shopping and I am stranded at home, unable to drive, with no school to go back to.

I realized thisweek, thanks to a coworker, than NY licensure requirement specify a master's degree of at least 48 credits, but the programs I'm looking at don't have that many.

Royal Harp, most expensive harps [Sep. 4th, 2006|02:18 am]
http://www.harpworldinc.com/feature_harp.html#

Maybe someday I will become king and someone will make me a harp.
It's wonderful that Wales has a royal harpist. There are government hired harpist here in the US. The ones in the military music ensembles.

I wonder, how much this harp would sell for if it had been made for individual sales. The new Salvi anniversary harp, with inlaid mother of pearl, is $95,000, making it their most expensive harp at the moment (at least as far as I can tell). But I think it might cost even more than that. Lyon and Healy's current most expensive is the Louis XV Special at $179,000. For those looking to save a bit of money, one can go with the Louis XV (non-special....forget the shiny gold, its just a plain-jane harp) at $129,000.
Now a person can always go with Venus harps (who made my pedal harp), and get the gold Polonaise (http://www.venusharps.com/polonaise-big.htm) for 52,500.
Now other pedal harp companies make harps of course, but from what I can tell, the major makers I'm familiar with, don't have models listed for this much monies. I'm sure customized models could cost that much, but I haven't found one from another harpmaker for over $100,000.
Swanson harps has a harp for 38,000 (http://www.swansonharp.com/The_Art_Nouveau.html), and that's without any gold/gilding/shiny stuff. All wood, baby! Okay, well, the discs are gold plated. But they are metal to begin with. I meant no gold-on-wood.
